U11 Hardball Team

This year Stirling have set up an U11 hardball team and they are off to a great start. After some very successful winter training at the Peak, the team are unbeaten in their three games so far this season.

All the matches have been played in an excellent spirit, with the emphasis on developing good young cricketers. Stirling beat Dunfermline at the start of the season and then followed this with a win against local rivals Stenhousemuir.

On Wednesday 9th June, the team took on Kinross, who have a strong side that was also unbeaten. Kinross batted first and set 250 in their 20 overs (you start at 200!). Stirling bowled really well with every player bowling except our wicket-keeper. 7 wickets were taken and it looked to be an attainable target when Stirling reached 220 in the first 4 overs. If only things were that simple! It was nip and tuck all the way until Stirling edged ahead by 4 runs in the last over. A wicket in the last over would have led to 5 runs being docked. Our final pair held on resolutely to great excitement.

Next up the team play at Stenhousemuir on Friday 18th June in a cup game.

Kwik cricket

On Sunday 6th June, Stirling took 19 players over to Largo for their Kwik cricket festival. Despite an appalling weather forecast we got through 4 games for every team. It was very well organised by Largo and great to see Stirling take so many young cricketers away to St Andrews. It reflects the enthusiasm of the players and the commitment of the parents who gave up the chance of a lazy Sunday morning!

The development of the Kwik cricketers is very encouraging. We have some real talent and are regularly seeing around 50 girls and boys (aged 6-11) at training on a Monday night (6.30-8pm). We are always keen to see new faces .

This Sunday (13th June) we host Forth Valley clubs at New Williamfield for a Kwik cricket festival, then the following Sunday (20th June) we host the annual John  Cooper competition.
