Under 15's
2nd June 2010
The Fife U15 league encounter between Stirling County and Kinross at New Williamfield last Wednesday evening produced a low scoring match with bowlers on top and an exciting finish.
The Kinross opening batsmen Koronka and Prentice gave their team a steady start but with 32 runs on the board, but the introduction of offspinner Jake Jamieson brought immediate results. In his first over he clean bowled Koronka, then in his next he removed Prentice with a sharply turning ball. A brilliant diving left handed catch by Lewis Gilbride at first slip gave Jamieson his third wicket.
The visitors were 55 for three when Fraser Gosse skied a ball to be well held by Akram Shakoor from the bowling of Hamish Cordner.
Kinross could only reach 74 in their allotted 20 overs to give Stirling a fairly easy target.
Stirling started badly losing their first three wickets for 21 runs. Lewis Gilbride partnered by Hamish Cordner took the score to 38 before he was adjudged lbw.
Hamish kept up the run-rate but wickets continued to fall and when was out caught 24 runs were still needed with eight overs remaining and five wickets left.
Stirling edged closer to the target but wickets were still falling and when the final over was called the last pair Ewan Dawtrey and Annand Cheema were batting with 5 runs needed to win, a wide and two runs left one more ball Dawtrey hit the ball well but failed to pierce the field and Kinross won by two runs.
Best bowling for Stirling was Jake Jamieson with three for 8 and Hamish Cordner with two for 14. Lewis Gilbride was top scorer with 21 runs.
This week the U15s are at home to Grange on Friday 11th June for the re-arranged Nat West Cup match.
2nd June 2010 - League Win For County Colts
The County U/15s recorded a comfortable win over Broomhall in their Fife Junior League match last week at New Williamfield.
The visitors struggled against the county bowlers but managed to reach 110 all out with A. Gudgin (44 no) and D. Glasgow (20) being the only batsmen to reach double figures. Hamish Cordner was Stirling’s best bowler taking three wickets for 9 runs,
He was well supported by Jake Jamieson (two for 8), Adeel Anwar (two for 12) and John Devine (two for 14).
Stirling reached the target thanks to their skipper John Devine and Ewan MacGarvie sharing an opening partnership of 36 runs before MacGarvie was out. Akram Shakoor joined his captain to take the score to 68 before both he and Devine had to retire on reaching 30 runs.
Lewis Gilbride and Jake Jamieson then knocked off the remaining runs with two overs to spare.
20th May 2010
Thursday’s U15 cup tie at New Williamfield produced a final ball drama with the Stirling Colts emerging victors over West Lothian County.
The visitors batted first and apart from Mike Miller who hit a fighting half century no other batsman reached double figures. Akram Shakoor took three wickets for 11 runs in his four overs, Lewis Gilbride took two for 2 and very tight bowling from the other Stirling bowlers limited the visitors to 88 all out.
In reply Stirling’s opening pair John Devine and Ewan MacGarvie saw off the pace attack of West Lothian’s first two bowlers Thomson and Hamilton but fell below the run-rate.
Stirling lost two wickets and were 18 for two with only twelve overs remaining.
Akram Shakoor joined Devine and those two brought the score to 66 before Akram was out caught and bowled. One run later Devine was adjudged lbw and Lewis Gilbride joined Adeel Anwar with three overs remaining and 21 runs required for victory. Runs came with every hit and Lewis smashed a four to leave them needing seven runs in the final over, when last ball was called one run was still needed, the ball was hit hard but straight back to the bowler who fielded it with both batsmen stranded in the middle of the pitch, a run-out seemed certain with the bowler only two yards from the wicket but he threw the ball wildly over the stumps and over the boundary line to give Stirling a breathtaking win.
Stirling now meet Grange at home in the next round.
