The SCCC Junior Section is a thriving mix of Kwik Cricket through to hardball coaching, training and matches. The groups cover youngsters from early years to our U15's, some of whom will have the opportunity to play senior level cricket either in friendly or league fixtures.

Monday evenings at the club is a sea of activity, often with over 70 enthusiastic participants plus parents, coaches and supporting helpers. We're always looking for more help so if you are a parent who would like to help out in any way whether it's helping with training, organising refreshments, helping with ferrying children to and from training and matches or anything else, please have a chat with one of the organisers/coaches or email us from here and we'll get back to you.

If you're one of our young players, have a word with your parents and get them involved - they'll be very happy to help we're sure!

Cricket, despite it's summer time tradition, is actually on the go throughout the whole year. Once the main season is over in September, we start indoor winter nets and games and this runs right the way through to the following season starting in April. That's another reason that we could do with some more parental help and support as, with most clubs, there is a small band of very enthusiastic people that organise and manage all of these activities.

COUNTY JUNIORS START WITH CUP ACTION - update

This will be a record year for the NatWest Competion with around 1,800 clubs throughout the UK taking part and 27,000 young cricketers sharing the dream of being in the team crowned as NatWest U15 Champions.

The competition has produced many world class cricketers over the years including Andrew Flintoff who in the 1993 competion, scored 234 not out in 20 overs including 22 sixes.

Last year the county colts reached the semi-final of the Scottish Regional Competion and they hope to go one better this season.

The tie on Sunday will be a twenty20 match, play starts at 2.00pm.

Freuchie suffered a sad bereavement to a parent of one of their U15 team last week and had not only to cancel their cup match but decided to concede the tie with the County U15s on Sunday.

The Stirling Colts will now have a home tie in the next round with West Lothian County to be played before 23rd May.

Without a match on Sunday the juniors had a training session instead which gave them the opportunity to meet the club’s new professional player/coach Kreeson Naicker who has recently arrived from South Africa. Kreeson was very impressed with the junior squad and is looking forward to coaching them during the summer

FUTURE CRICKET STARS AT THE PEAK                                                                        November 2009

Thanks to the sponsorship from Stuart Milne Builders and funding from SportsMatch through SportScotland, Stirling County’s young cricketers made history on an October Friday evening when the club made its first use of the splendid new indoor cricket facilities at Stirling’s  Peak Sports Centre.

Eighteen youngsters attended the first of a block of weekly sessions which will continue at the centre throughout the winter until Easter.  The initial block of coaching sessions will involve under 13 year olds and a squad of youngsters who have already emerged with great potential  from the Primary Schools  Kwik Cricket Coaching Scheme which was launched last year and is funded by the Stirling Cricket Development Trust.

Stirling County Coaching Convener Raymond Bond is delighted with the success of the Primary Schools Scheme, “This is a very exciting time for  the development of cricket in Stirling, over 30 schools in the Stirling area are currently taking part in the scheme which is being organised by SportCentral in conjunction with CricketScotland.  Last Friday we had youngsters not only from Stirling but also from outlying areas such as Buchlyvie, Kippen and Thornhill who have already shown tremendous cricket talent, they enjoyed their first introduction to hard ball cricket using pads, gloves and helmets etc.”

“We are also very fortunate to have Australian Glenn Rogers assisting with the winter coaching, Glenn plays for the Scottish Saltires and is now resident in Stirling, he  joined Stirling County as an amateur last season and turned in some match-winning performances for the club, he is a fantastic cricketer and a great asset as a coach. Glenn was very impressed with the standard already shown by the youngsters and he is looking forward to coaching them during the winter.”
