WDCU Release 2018 Fixtures
January 10th saw the release of the much-awaited WDCU league fixtures for the 2018 season. The released fixtures include those for both Stirling County Saturday XIs and offer a glimpse at the challenge that awaits both teams this coming season.
Stirling County 1st XI mark their return to top-flight cricket on April 28th with what could be a difficult away trip. They travel to the Henry Thow Oval to face surprise 2017 CS Grand Final Winners Prestwick, who shocked Scottish cricket by defeating Heriot's in last season's showpiece game. The fixture will offer a good litmus test for the young County side and should offer a good example of the level of performance needed to survive in the top echelon of cricket in the West.
The 2nd XI will also face a stern challenge during the 2018 season, as they look to compete in the newly revamped WDCU 2nd Division. No longer playing in a league restricted to other 2nd XIs, the Williamfield team will have to hit the ground running in a tough division that includes the likes of 2017 1st XI opponents St Michaels and former national league outfit Hillhead. The 2nd XI's first league match is at home against Anniesland.
Prior to the commencement of league cricket, the club has also arranged a number of friendly matches. The pre-season kicks-off on April 7th with a home match against WDCU First division side East Kilbride. Two more friendly games follow against Corstorphine and Falkland on April 14th and April 21st respectively.
At the time of writing, the Scottish Cup, Western Cup and Sunday league fixtures are yet to be published.
