Club celebrates 2018 Season at Awards Night

Joan Anderson receives Willie Little Trophy from past winner Cath Morton

At the club’s senior wards night last Saturday (6/10/2018), Stirling County players and members gathered at New Williamfield to celebrate what was, by most accounts, a hugely successful 2018. Not only did the First XI produce their finest season for decades in finishing 3rd in the league and winning the Rowan Cup, but the Sunday XI also showed some great form to finish 2nd in their league and the Wednesday XI continued to give opportunities to young and novice cricketers alike while finishing the season with an impressive winning record. And even though the 2nd XI suffered a somewhat chastening season, the team still managed to produce some fantastic individual and team performances with county players occupying the top two places on the league’s highest individual score table.

The Winners

Some notable winners on the night included the Alexander Taylor Memorial Trophy (for the year’s highest batting score) recipient Akash Rawal, who scored a fantastic 187 for the 2nd XI against Anniesland, and Rukman Hewage, who captured the 1st XI bowling trophy as well as winning the award for the club’s best bowling figures with his 6 for 21 against West of Scotland.  A complete list of all the winners from the night can be found in the table below.

Willie Little Trophy

As ever, the highlight of the evening was the awarding of the Willie Little Trophy, an award given every year to the Club Member of the year. This award is given to the person who, throughout the year, has made the greatest contribution to the club and one struggles to think of a more deserving recipient than this year’s winner Joan Anderson (pictured above). Not only has Joan contributed greatly to ensuring that Stirling County teas are rightfully regarded as some of the best in the country and organised and managed the club’s recycling programme, but she has also approached the management and maintenance of the club’s flower displays and bedding around the clubhouse with an inexhaustible energy and commitment that. As if this all wasn’t enough, Joan has taken on the herculean task of taming the club’s wild and overgrown hawthorn hedge, approaching the job with her typical iron will and steely resolve. Such is Joan’s total contribution to the club that it is hard for one to imagine the club running without her efforts!
