Junior newsletter - January 2021
A belated New Year to on and all.
This Newsletter comes to you later than intended. This is due to the ever changing situation in which we find ourselves, with the continuing and evolving Covid-19 restrictions greatly impacting on our ability to proceed with Season 2021.
It was hoped that with the appropriate prevailing conditions we would have had our Open Day and indoor training sessions fixed in our diaries and looking forward to commencing with outdoor activities by April. Sadly this is still not possible.
We learned much from our 2019 season and building on this we had an ambitious and exciting development plan in place for 2020. Now we can add to this the knowledge gained and adapted practices employed in 2020 - Intra club development games, the benefits gained from the ADG format (players refusing to stop and playing in into the evening !) etc. As soon as we can get back to advancing Junior cricket at SCCC we will be just as committed to providing increasing opportunities to progress the Junior Section supporting all our players in maximising their participation and enjoyment from our game.
Although we are unable to get our game up and running at the moment, the club staff and board members have been busy ensuring that once the current restrictions are eased we will be ready to commence with our season. There is much communication with outside groups and governing bodies, with Cricket Forth Valley Cricket, Active Stirling, WDCJU, ADG and Cricket Scotland all feeding into the board’s activities. Within the club, working groups have been set up to, for example, advance our commercial status and secure partnerships providing support for SCCC.
The groundworks undertaken at the end of last season have greatly improved our drainage systems and, although this work threw up some anomalies they have now been taken care of, once we get back to playing we should all notice a much improved playing surface.
For the time being, we would encourage everyone to try and build in some physical activities into your daily routines. Please remember our mantra: Athleticism, Agility, Accuracy.
You could consider including some of the exercises and stretches we have done together before, some short sprints and, of course, some hand-eye coordination that include simple activities with ball in hand. There are many sources of fitness and activity classes to be found online, including several cricket specific sites.
We will update as and when there is any change to the current restrictions and hopefully we will soon get back together playing our wonderful game.
Until then, please stay safe and hopefully we can all meet up soon.
Brian and Vicki
Junior Convenors, SCCC.
