This week at Stirling County CC – WB 12/7/21

After a somewhat disappointing weekend for the club’s senior teams (in which the 1st XI’s title challenge hit a bump in the form of defeat to West of Scotland and our 2nd XI suffered a defeat to yet another 1st XI) we take a look forward to what promises to be a pretty exciting week for the club!

Senior Teams

The undoubted highlight of the week (and season thus far) has to be the final of the Rowan Cup, taking place at Kelburne Cricket Club on Thursday against Ferguslie. Another victory in the competition that the club won three years ago will secure a place in the national play-offs for the Doggies and move the team one step closer to that trip to Spain for the European T20 competition!

Following Thursday’s cup final, Saturday sees the club’s top team looking to reignite their league challenge with a home win against bottom placed Greenock. Saturday is also the club’s ‘former players and member’s day’ at New Williamfield and, with sunshine and high temperatures forecast, we want to see as many former players and old members at New Williamfield as possible!

Meanwhile the 2nd XI will be travelling to the West End of Glasgow to take on GHK, and they will be hoping that their batters can find the same sort of form that their young bowling attack displayed in last Saturday’s loss to Motherwell. The Sunday XI will complete their Kismet double-header this Sunday as they make their way to deepest, darkest Fife to engage the Dunfermline team in battle once more!

Juniors

After a busy week before, in which both the J2s and J3s secured impressive victory, our juniors are enjoying a well-deserved quiet week. The next junior match sees our J2s resume their WDJCU campaign against Helensburgh on 23rd July.

Ladies Cricket

The Trossachs T10 competition continues this week with a home match against Callander. The Stirling ladies team will then get a second chance to showcase their skills on Sunday at East Kilbride in Cricket Scotland’s softball development competition. Both are fantastic initiatives and should hopefully introduce a whole new generation of girls and women to the wonders of cricket!
